Typography
In looking for a typeface around which to design a system, it was clear a balance was required between strong, classic design and modern technological developments. Source Serif Pro presents a perfect pairing in that respect. Its inspiration comes from Fournier, a classic design from early in the 20th century, but is updated with more open design touches to aid in reading on screens. This yields a design that works equally well in headings and long passages of copy.
Paired with the availability of a Variable Font version, it assures the Georgia.gov design system will be based on a solid foundation for years to come.
Rounding out the typography on the site is Proxima Nova. This is the sans-serif used for navigation links and other functional user interface copy.
